3 1/2 more days!

Andrew has now been gone for over 3 weeks. Basically, way too long.

I’ve come to realize how extremely dependent and reliant I am upon my husband. I consider myself a relatively strong and independent person, but Andrew is my backbone. He’s the one I can be weak around. There is never a hesitation to let my guard down with him, and that is why I love him so much. He is my best friend. And I’ve really missed my best friend these past three weeks. But my other half is coming home so soon!

I’ve also come to have a whole new appreciation for military spouses. Any time I have wanted to complain, I think about the thousands of those who are not only missing their loved ones, but are praying every day that they just stay alive.  Let’s all remember to lift them up in prayer as often as we think of them.

That’s why its Kentucky

Woohoo!!!I love Billy G and I love Kentucky! What an awesome game. We beat the #5 team in the nation! The cats never gave up, played tough and stayed focused through the entire game. We might not have the most talented team, but every player on that team wanted it bad and they proved themselves. Final score,Tennessee: 66, Kentucky: 72

Blah Blah Blah

070115_r15839_p465.jpgI’m sickened. Why did I even turn on the TV?

Somehow I navigated and stopped on CNN. I know… I know… what was I thinking? And there they were: trying to disguise their self-absorption by their sickening, ear-tickling flattery. Hillary, Obama and Edwards.

No one is solving issues. No ones gets deep.

We’ll help the poor people. We’ll help the black people. We’ll help the uninsured. We’ll help the war ridden. We’ll help the elderly. We’ll help the uneducated. We’ll help the minorities.

That’s all fine and good. But how do you plan on doing this? I really tried to listen hard. I attempted to have an open mind while watching this debate. It lasted about 30 seconds.

And then I got angry.

I watched as a question on fiscal responsibility became an open door for a petty, 10-minute cat fight between Hillary and Obama. And then Edwards chimed in whining that he wanted to be part of the debate too.

The only solution to any problem I even heard between all the jabs was, “well I have a plan for this and a policy for that and a program for this. Blah, blah, blah.”Well going back to that question on fiscal responsibility that no one ever answered, Who is paying for all of this? Who is going to pay for your fancy plans and policies?

Whatever, I’m sick of even wasting time typing on this right now.

Travel

So do you ever get really bored and start browsing through the random blogs that come after your own? (please tell me you do!) Well I was bored. And I started browsing. And I guess I realized something. There are so many different people out there, living in all corners of the earth, experiencing completely different lives, hoping for different things, waiting on something different and usually desiring a different life than their own.

It really made me want to go and meet these people all over the world. I want to experience different cultures, see places I’ve never seen and gain new perspectives.

So here’s my list. Now I really want your input. Because I realize I haven’t been very many places or even heard of all the amazing spots to go and people to meet, so give me your lists too! These are in no particular order:

India
China
Italy
Sudan
Australia
Israel
Germany
Greece
Turkey
Brazil
Costa Rica
England

Bleh

Packing is not fun.

Boxes, random items, packing tape, sharpie markers, everywhere.

I’m trying to figure out what is supposed to be packed first. I feel like I’m going to need every last item in my house for the next week. So what goes? The books are already in. Various kitchen tools are packed. What’s left? Help me!

I’m obviously delaying right now.

Poppa

Keep my poppa in your prayers tomorrow. He is undergoing his knee replacement surgery in the morning at 10:30. It’s exciting but still a little nerve-racking. He’s needed a new knee for a very long time now so I can’t wait to see him active again, but with an infection he’s had in his knee since high school, there is still some risk there. Pray for a completely successful surgery and a quick recovery time! He’ll be back out on the bball court schooling me in no time :)

Blessed…

Thank you Lord for a full heart. For placing a barrier of love around me. From the small steps of my past to the leaps of the present, always there have been people to show me You. I’m still learning. I still mess up. But oh how thankful I am for the grace of those around me. There is a peace and a warmth that cannot be pinned down when I think of the faces that make up my mural. Thank you for being a perfect Artist. I am blessed.

The day the world got a lot brighter

mikeandmary.jpgMy beautiful mother was born January 4 (I dont think she would want me to tell you how many years ago). There are a lot of people who have reason to celebrate as she has touched so many lives in her path. I have never met a woman who cares more about other people. Here are just a few ways she makes the world a much brighter place:

1. She knows how to listen. And I mean truly listen to you. She never tries to interrupt with her two cents. She just listens and cares.

2. She does all of the little things that can make you feel really special…. like, putting a welcome home sign and candy on my pillow every time I come home to visit. Or baking all of my friends derby pies in highscool when they scored in a bball game. Or sending a card at just the right time when you need it. Or letting you know she’s praying for you. Or cooking my favorite meal.

3. She remembers everyone else’s birthday. And I mean everyone. Tell her once, she’ll never forget your special day.

4. She is a fantastic hugger. Back in junior high, when she was the secretary at the school I went to… so many kids would go to her office for a “Mrs. West” hug. And she took time to know each kid and listen to how they were doing. Whenever I’m home, I still cuddle up and get as many mommy hugs in as I can.

5. She is a woman of prayer. I know she is praying for me everyday, and that means more to me than she probably knows. If she tells you she’ll pray for you, you can count on it.

6. She is strong. Much of the reason I am a follower of Christ today is because of my mother. She has been through a lot in her life. More than anyone should have to go through. To know what she’s been through and to see the person she is today is a complete testament to God’s power and grace.

There are many more reasons to celebrate this day. I am so thankful for her and feel completely blessed to have been raised by this amazing woman. I love you Mom! Happy Birthday!
